Hellbender sheep (and wool)

Our herd is made up of an heirloom breed of sheep called Navajo-churro, which is on the Livestock Conservancy's Conservation Priority List.  We participate in the Livestock Conservancy's Shave 'Em to Save 'Em program, which helps encourage fiber artists to explore heirloom wool breeds by purchasing fleeces from farmers of these rare breeds.

For more information on the history of the Navajo-churro breed, the story of its decline and ongoing efforts to save the breed, and other great information, we recommend exploring the Navajo-churro Sheep Association website.

We acquired our herd from Many Blue Hills Farm in Virginia in Spring 2023 and had our first shearing in May 2023.  To inquire about fleece availability, please email info@hellbenderfarm.com.
