This area of North Carolina was dubbed the "Lost Province" due to its isolation from the rest of the state by the high peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1921 Highway 16 was built to connect this area to Wilkesboro and the rest of the Piedmont. Despite being connected for the last hundred years, the area retains a feeling of being set apart. If you are looking for a place that's relaxing, uncrowded, quirky and full of potential adventures, Ashe County is for you.
